Weekend Update

I work in retail (well, in a grocery store, which I consider retail but my husband disagrees with me every time I say that I work in retail) so weekends don't really mean a whole lot.

On Saturday I worked 8 to 5. When I started telling people about my transfer the first thing they said to me was, "You have to try the peanut butter burger at Darrell's." Darrell's is right next door to my store and has won all kinds of awards for their hamburgers. Still, the idea of peanut butter on my hamburger bun weirded me out a little bit. I decided to go for it on Saturday though, and am I ever glad I did! If you've never had peanut butter on your hamburger I recommend trying it! I know it sounds crazy, but it's totally delicious.

I spent most of Saturday evening in the kitchen. We were having a potluck lunch at church on Sunday so I made sweet and sour meatballs (super easy and tasty) and a hamburger pasta dish. I also baked cupcakes. I was feeling lazy, so I just used a cake mix and Duncan Hines Frosting Creations. (Seriously cool - you buy the tub of frosting and a little flavour packet. I bought mint chocolate to go with my chocolate cupcakes.)

On Sunday we were at the church from 9:30am to almost 4pm. Such a long day. It was good, but so long. We had a guest preacher so we did a morning and afternoon service (instead of morning and evening) with the potluck in between. There was so much food! I felt like I was going to explode - but it was worth it. (This is my plate - my husband's was twice as full!)

Daisy was super excited to see us when we got home. She gets so lonely. Since it was actually a super nice day (first one this spring I think) we decided to take her out for a nice long walk. We took her to one of our favourite parks and walked around the lake. It was gorgeous. We ended the night with a fire in our backyard fire pit. We even roasted hot dogs for supper.

Hope you all had a great weekend too!

  1. Ooo I love church potlucks! There's always awesome stuff. And you said you were lazy?? You made meatballs, pasta, AND cupcakes! I think using box mix is fair. :)

While I don't live near Darrell's (I'm in Wash DC), I am curious about this PB Burger! You've piqued my interest, for sure.

    1. They used crunchy peanut butter, and they same toppings as a regular burger. (I had ketchup, mayo, and lettuce on mine.) I can't figure out how all the flavours and textures work - but they do!

    1. The idea definitely weirded me out, I couldn't wrap my head around how it was actually going to taste. And I still can't explain it, other than to see it was really good.

    1. I can't believe you never ate at Darrell's! I think I've been there five or six times since my transfer to Queen Street. They make the best sweet potato fries too. Next time you're in the city we'll have to have lunch. And next time I'm in NG we'll have a blate too. :-)
